Free Mattes

Free Mattes from Jesse Burton on Vimeo.

I’ve had to design a few mattes for various projects over the last few months and thought they might be of use to others. All of these mattes are controlled by expressions with simple master controls. You can download the After Effects project file here:

And I have a question for the internet regarding the “8-Bit” Matte contained herein. I produced this by painstakingly creating the rectangle configurations in Illustrator and then translating the mask paths to AE. Wondering if any scripting/expressions wizards can think of a way to do it without that manual labor. Is it possible to accomplish the same effect dynamically with a single shape layer?

“Frozen Moment” shoot

I just wrapped production on my first shoot involving motion control. The brief was to bring a “CSI-style” investigatory quality to spot showcasing a new payments technology. The result was a “frozen moment” approach that lent itself to a number of interesting visual gags. Shot with a Technodolly on the RED Epic. Excited to share more.
